Austria export credit agency and official support
OeKB (Oesterreichische Kontrollbank Aktiengesellschaft) provides Austrian export services including export guarantees and export related financing channelled through banks. Official Export Services pages state that OeKB offers export guarantees covering risks in difficult markets and attractive financing conditions passed on through the bank channel because of OeKB's credit standing on the capital markets. Working capital loan financing for export transactions is also described, including risk sharing with the company's bank on stated products.
The Berne Union directory lists OeKB for Austria. The official OeKB Export Services pages are the institutional pointer for export credit guarantee cover and financing products. Detailed interest rate tables and country information tools on the OeKB site are outside this summary and sit in current OeKB publications.
FATF posture for Austria
Austria is a FATF member. Membership denotes participation in AML and counter-terrorist financing standard setting; mutual evaluation and follow-up outcomes are published by FATF separately. Austria does not appear on the FATF increased monitoring or call for action lists as reproduced in HM Treasury's June 2026 Money Laundering Advisory Notice.
Sanctions posture for Austria
Austria applies EU CFSP restrictive measures. Commission sanctions pages and the EU Sanctions Map are the public institutional pointers for regimes and listings. Official Journal texts remain authoritative.
For sanctions screening on Austrian exposures under EU measures, institutional reading starts from those EU sources and Austrian national competent authorities referenced by the Commission.
Company and beneficial ownership registers in Austria
EU e-Justice materials for Austria describe the Firmenbuch as the electronic commercial register that replaced the paper Handelsregister in 1991. Anyone may access the commercial register database for entries in the principal register and the document archive. Limited companies and other entity types required under Austrian commercial law are recorded in the principal register as summarised on the e-Justice page.
Federal Ministry of Finance materials describe the Beneficial Owners Register Act (BORA) as the legal basis for the Register of Beneficial Owners, effective 15 January 2018, with inspection available from 2 May 2018. Since 1 September 2023, natural persons and organisations may inspect the register if they have a legitimate interest. Obliged entities may inspect for AML due diligence, authorities may inspect for statutory purposes, and limited public access is also described as available. Reports are filed via the Unternehmensserviceportal. Beneficial ownership access in Austria is therefore a mixed model of obliged entity access, legitimate interest inspection and limited public access as stated by BMF. Country risk for OeKB cover remains a separate underwriting input.
Summary
Austria participates in Arrangement disciplines through the European Union Participant for medium and long term officially supported export credits. OeKB export guarantees and refinancing style support through banks are complementary institutional tools: cover addresses payment risk while financing terms reflect OeKB funding capacity described on Export Services pages. Firmenbuch extracts support legal status checks for Austrian companies. The Beneficial Owners Register under BORA supplies UBO data under the legitimate interest and limited public access model published by the Federal Ministry of Finance. Those registers do not replace EU sanctions screening for Austrian CFSP exposures.
