Chile

Chile is a South American jurisdiction whose official productive-development agency is CORFO, the Chilean Economic Development Agency. Bank export finance and project finance desks treat Chile as a sovereign counterparty and host-state context for country risk, export credit agency cover, FATF posture and company-identity checks.

Chile jurisdiction identity

CORFO describes itself as an agency of the Government of Chile created in 1939. It is a decentralised public agency represented by an Executive Vice President, with a Board chaired by the Minister of Economy, Development and Tourism and including other ministers plus private advisors appointed by the President of the Republic. CORFO's published English mandate centres on productive growth, industrialisation and strategic enterprises in sectors such as mining, energy, agriculture and infrastructure, together with innovation, entrepreneurship and productive transformation.

That institutional identity matters for desks because official Chilean support for enterprise and internationalisation sits primarily in a development-agency framework rather than in a classic single-product national ECA brand listed in every global association directory. CORFO also states that it is financially sustainable, robust and regionally present across Chile.

Official support and ECA pointers

CORFO states that it strengthens innovation, entrepreneurship and productive transformation, and that it supports projects with an international outlook through programmes and incentives aimed at foreign companies and entrepreneurs interested in operating or investing in Chile. The same official overview records ties with development agencies, international financial institutions and multilateral organisations.

The Berne Union member directory does not list a Chile-domiciled national export credit agency alongside peers such as Turk Eximbank, ECIC SA or Finnvera. Absence from that directory is an institutional fact for desks. It does not by itself determine whether Chilean exporters can obtain cover from foreign ECAs on OECD Arrangement terms. Desks therefore separate CORFO's domestic development and trade-support role from Berne Union membership status when mapping official-support counterparties.

FATF and sanctions list posture

Chile does not appear on the FATF increased monitoring or call for action lists as reproduced in HM Treasury's June 2026 Money Laundering Advisory Notice. FATF statements are time-stamped institutional publications, refreshed when FATF plenary updates are issued. List status is an AML peer-review outcome, not a sanctions designation: EU, UN, UK and US measures can still designate Chilean persons or entities, so desk sanctions screening remains party-based. This datasheet does not assert the presence or absence of a Chile-specific sanctions regime beyond pointing to those official publications.

Company and beneficial ownership register notes

Chile's Registro de Empresas y Sociedades (RES) is the electronic company and partnership register under Law No. 20.659. The official FAQ states that RES is a single register for the whole territory of Chile, is essentially public, and is permanently updated on the website so that information incorporated in it is available for consultation. Societies constituted through the RES portal do not require Diario Oficial publication or inscription in the commercial register of the relevant Conservador de Bienes Raices under article 21 of Law 20.659, according to the same FAQ.

The RES FAQ describes publicity of company constitution and related filings. It does not, in the pages cited for this datasheet, establish an operational national beneficial-ownership register with public UBO extracts comparable to some European trade-register models. Desks therefore treat Chilean beneficial-ownership evidence as a know-your-business documentation question against available official company filings, and record gaps explicitly where UBO data are not published.
