Institutional datasheet

South Africa is a southern African jurisdiction whose national export credit agency is the Export Credit Insurance Corporation of South Africa SOC Ltd (ECIC). Bank EF and PF desks use this datasheet for ECA identity, company-register pointers, FATF posture and sanctions list orientation.

South Africa jurisdiction identity and ECIC

ECIC publishes that it was founded on 2 July 2001, with the Export Credit and Foreign Investments Insurance Act (1957, as amended) as its enabling act, and the South African government, represented by the dtic, as shareholder. Its head office is in Centurion, Pretoria. ECIC also publishes that it is a licensed non-life insurer and authorised Financial Services Provider (FSP 30656).

Official product framing on ECIC's site includes medium to long term export credit insurance, investment insurance for South African entities investing abroad, small and medium transactions programmes, bond products, working capital cover, project finance and corporate finance product paths, and short-term insurance. Country ratings and country and sector reports are published in line with the corporation's mandate to facilitate and encourage South African export trade.

Berne Union and official support posture

ECIC SA, Export Credit Insurance Corporation SOC LTD, appears in the Berne Union member directory. That listing is association membership alongside the statutory mandate ECIC publishes. The medium to long term and investment product families on the ECIC site map to export credit insurance and political risk insurance categories familiar to EF desks; underwriting terms remain those of ECIC policy and South African official-support rules.

FATF and sanctions list posture

South Africa is a FATF member. Membership denotes participation in AML and counter-terrorist financing standard setting; evaluation outcomes are published by FATF separately. South Africa does not appear on the FATF increased monitoring or call for action lists as reproduced in HM Treasury's June 2026 Money Laundering Advisory Notice. List status is an AML peer-review outcome, not a credit rating, and risk-based AML controls continue to apply under each booking entity's programme.

UN, UK, EU and other financial sanctions programmes can designate persons or entities with a South African nexus. Desk sanctions screening remains party-based against the applicable official lists; this datasheet does not inventory designations.

Company and beneficial ownership register notes

The Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC) is South Africa's official companies and intellectual property registry portal. CIPC publishes enterprise registration and maintenance services, company search access, and notices on beneficial ownership filing compliance under the Companies Act. CIPC is the institutional pointer for South African company identity and beneficial ownership filing compliance; exact public-access rules for beneficial ownership data are recorded as an open item pending primary confirmation from CIPC service pages. Intellectual property filings surfaced on the same portal are outside the scope of this datasheet.
