Institutional datasheet

Thailand is an ASEAN economy whose official export credit agency is the Export-Import Bank of Thailand (EXIM Thailand). For bank desks, the Thailand country profile centres on a Ministry of Finance supervised specialised financial institution, Berne Union membership, FATF-list geography and Department of Business Development company registration.

Official export credit support in Thailand

EXIM Thailand states that it is a state-owned specialised financial institution under the Ministry of Finance's supervision, established by the Export-Import Bank of Thailand Act, 1993 (B.E. 2536), which took effect on 7 September 1993. The Bank's objective is to conduct business that promotes and supports Thai export, import and investment for national development by providing credit facilities, guarantees, insurance against risks, or other services conducive to those goals.

The Berne Union member profile describes THAI EXIMBANK as wholly owned by the Royal Thai Government under Ministry of Finance supervision, serving the financial needs of Thai exporters, Thai investments overseas and other businesses earning or saving foreign exchange, with facilities including short-term and medium and long term export credit insurance and investment insurance.

EXIM Thailand product menus published on its official site include trade finance, long-term export credit, overseas project finance, buyer credit and export credit insurance lines; transaction terms are those of the Bank's product documentation. Thailand is not an OECD Arrangement Participant, so Arrangement premium grids do not govern EXIM Thailand pricing unless its own documentation states alignment for a product. Where a foreign Participant ECA covers exports to Thailand, that foreign ECA's Arrangement obligations and country risk category for Thailand remain the foreign ECA's framework. Credit files identify whether EXIM Thailand is lender, guarantor or insurer in a structure and how its proceeds interact with commercial lenders under the transaction documents.

FATF and sanctions list posture

Thailand does not appear on the FATF increased monitoring or call for action lists as reproduced in HM Treasury's June 2026 Money Laundering Advisory Notice. List status is an AML peer-review outcome, not a sanctions designation, and absence from those lists does not waive customer due diligence on Thai counterparties. UN, UK, EU or other financial sanctions programmes can still designate Thai persons or entities; desk sanctions screening remains party-based and parallel to FATF geography controls in the bank's AML programme.

Company and beneficial ownership registers

Thailand's Department of Business Development (DBD) under the Ministry of Commerce is the institutional business registration authority cited in this datasheet. Exact public-access rules for beneficial ownership disclosures, fees and any restricted fields for foreign obliged entities are recorded as an open item pending primary confirmation from DBD service pages. Banks obtain DBD company extracts and ownership evidence under Thai AML law and the bank's know-your-business programme.
