Institutional datasheet
The United Arab Emirates is a federal Gulf jurisdiction whose official export credit company is Etihad Credit Insurance (ECI). Bank EF and PF desks use this datasheet for export credit agency identity, product pointers, FATF posture and sanctions list orientation.
UAE jurisdiction identity and ECI
ECI states that it was established in 2018 as the UAE's official export credit company, offering businesses, lenders and investors solutions intended to accelerate and secure international trade. Its published vision centres on sustainable and secure non-oil trade for the UAE economy, and its mission on enabling UAE businesses to trade globally through trade credit solutions, access to finance and market insights. Those statements frame official support as non-oil export enablement rather than a general development-bank mandate.
ECI's published timeline records Berne Union membership from 2021, and the Berne Union member directory lists ECI, Etihad Credit Insurance, for the United Arab Emirates. ECI further publishes that in 2025 it supported AED 14.7 billion in trade and investment across more than 110 destinations; those figures describe reported support scale, not underwriting criteria for a single bank facility.
Official support products
ECI's products pages group offerings for exporters and re-exporters, banks and financial institutions, other ECAs, and investors, developers and EPC contractors. Exporter products named on the official site include whole turnover insurance, single risk insurance, invoice discounting insurance and pre-shipment risk insurance. Bank-facing products named include supply chain finance insurance, factoring insurance, non-payment insurance, green working capital insurance, buyer credit insurance, project finance insurance and LC confirmation insurance, with political risk insurance offered for investors, developers and EPC contractors.
Product pages distinguish exporter-facing cover from bank-facing non-payment and confirmation products. That split matters for documentation: exporter policies and bank beneficiary policies are not interchangeable evidence of cover, so credit files record the specific ECI product name and policy form applicable to the financed receivable or buyer credit. Eligibility, premium and documentation remain governed by ECI policy wording and UAE official-support rules.
FATF and sanctions list posture
The United Arab Emirates does not appear on the FATF increased monitoring or call for action lists as reproduced in HM Treasury's June 2026 Money Laundering Advisory Notice. List status is an AML peer-review outcome and refreshes after FATF plenary meetings; it is not a sanctions designation.
UN, UK, EU or other financial sanctions programmes can designate persons or entities with a UAE nexus. Desk sanctions screening uses the official lists of the applicable regimes; this datasheet does not inventory UAE-related designations.
Company and beneficial ownership register notes
The UAE maintains multiple company-registration channels across mainland emirates and free zones. A single federal public company register with confirmed open beneficial ownership extracts is not among the sources cited for this datasheet, so that structural fragmentation and the public UBO-access posture are recorded as open items pending citation of the relevant registrar pages. Entity evidence for UAE counterparties reads from the registrar competent for the counterparty's domicile, and free-zone practice is not generalised to the federal layer.
