The Piombino rail mill upgrade is backed by a EUR 33 million Italian government grant channelled through INVITALIA.

JSW Steel Italy Piombino is carrying out a Rail Mill Modernisation Project at its Piombino site in Italy with an estimated cost of about EUR 148 million.[1]

The upgrade is intended to let the mill produce rails of up to 120 metres as well as head-hardened rails.[1]

In April 2025, INVITALIA delivered EUR 33 million in state funding for the project under a Development Contract with the Italian Government.[1]

The grant supports the same roughly EUR 148 million modernisation programme at the Piombino facility.[1]
